8 year old date

last night evan and i went on his birthday date. after going through a loooong list of fun places to eat in the atl, including dante’s, 57th fighter group, and fogo, surprisingly he chose the cheesecake factory. i think it had something to do with the 30+ desserts to choose from. anyway it was a blast. he is such a good date. he took a shower before we left (under duress but he did it), he opened the door for me and he kinda pulled the chair out for me. at dinner, i told him there’s another thing that he should remember. ‘don’t watch tv on a date.’ ‘i was listening!’ he said (classic). ‘did you hear me make that last comment twice?’ ‘uh… no’, he replied with a grin. he’s learning…becoming a gentleman takes practice.

during dinner we talked about his goals for the year, which include taking time to read his Bible, learning to ride his heelies downhill (more on that), playing the drums (uh oh), cooking eggs, and having more patience with e2. someday he’d like to run track (i told him to talk to you, joy).

after dinner we went to barnes and noble to pick out his birthday book – which he LOVED…never taken him there before. the BEST library ever. he chose a new berenstain bear’s book, and we got him a new Bible (with great pictures!).we ended the night with the goofy movie at home complete with starburst and popcorn.

he asked, ‘does everyone do birthday dates?’ ‘no, but they sure are missing out if they don’t!’

for the record this is what he chose for dessert (and yes, chris did get some later):

CHRIS’ OUTRAGEOUS CHOCOLATE CAKE

A Cheesecake Factory Original – Layers of Moist Chocolate Cake, Chewy Brownie, Toasted Coconut Pecan Filling and Creamy Chocolate Chip Coconut Cheesecake
